Permanent Libraries (writers, classics, poetry, Shakespeare, reference, A-Z)
We have six permanent libraries in the classroom that remain up all year from day one to 180. The students may access books from these areas throughout the year. As with any book, they should treat it kindly and return it appropriately. If they do not know where to return a book, they put it on my rocking chair. The reference section is used daily. Class Librarians make sure that the reference section is returned to order at the end of daily word work. However, all students should be responsible and put things back nicely (facing up and spine out).
Fifth Grade Recommended Books Rotating Rack
There is also a circulating reading rack in the back of the classroom that is changed weekly by our fifth grade librarians. The books on this rack are juicy! Students will need to keep an eye on the selections available. All students will help maintain the order of placing books back facing outward and up and not overstuffing a holder with too many books.
Rotating Library: Unit of Focus
The library at the front of the room is oriented to the unit we are currently studying. The books will change with each new unit. All Genres, Biography, Non-Fiction, Natural Disasters, Fantasy, Poetry. As with any book, they should treat it kindly and return it appropriately. If they do not know where to return a book, they put it on my rocking chair.
